Not for two seconds

Ok, this is going to be a quick one since I am at the stage in my cold where I have absolutely no skin left of the sides of my nose and it's just stark red open nerve endings that cause me to cringe and weep every time I pick up a tissue. BUT! I have incredible news that I must share.

As a result of my untimely unemployment I decided to go whole hog and really drive the potty training home. We have been running half-assed ('scuse the pun) for the past, oh, like nine months...so I figured it was time to get serious. She was well aware of HOW to go in the potty and she would do it for poop every single time (as I have indicated with some distress in the past) but peeing was hit or miss. She would go if I put her on the pot but she would only tell me if she needed to about half the time. We started on Saturday and today...oh yes...I think I can announce it...we are diaper free.

(Choir of angels)

Just prior to this experiment Tess and I sat down and had ourselves a chat. Every time she went in the potty, she would receive one Junior Mint. I chose Junior Mints because they are something she has never had before and I wanted it to be a completely unique reward system. For the first two days we had some rough starts but after a while she was gung-ho on the whole idea. Since Monday, we have had nary a pair of wet underpants and today we had our first Underpants Outing whereby we not only wore the underwear but we ventured outdoors and into the public in said underwear. She was awesome. She told me in the car that she had to go pee-pee but she would wait until she was on the potty. I was so proud.

Now, you would think that a child so wonderfully adept at placing her waste products in the proper receptacle might not get into major mischief every single time you look away for two seconds...but you would be wrong.

I took these pictures on two separate occasions. The first is when I sat down to check my e-mail and turned to discover an erected monument not unlike that part in Poltergueist when all the chairs stacked up on the table. The second one isn't reminiscent of any motion picture moments but was more of a large mess which came about when I decided to try and pee in peace. I won't try that again...

Maybe she'll be an architect...they make good money, right?

That's hilarious. You need some of those giant melissa and doug blocks made out of cardboard. I bet she would get a kick out of them.

Good call on the junior mints. I might steal that idea.

I think we are going to wait until after the baby is born to really push the training. I get told she has to pee when we are out, but rarely ever at home, unless I am using the toilet (which is pretty often these days)

Congrats on the potty training victory but when you siad peeing on it was hit and miss, I was deeply concerned about the misses. And disgusted if they weren't promptly cleaned up.

I'm just checking back to see if the cold has loosened it's grip on you and the munchkin. Take care!
